D'Seanté Parks: 1000 MORE - A Platform of Possibilities

Listen in as Kristine and D'Seanté discuss:

  • That lawmakers work for us, and we remind them of that every time we tell them what we think and what we want them to do.

  • That Everything is a construct and, as such, can be deconstructed and reconstructed!

  • How playing a musical instrument takes your mind off work, politics, and the problems of the world.

  • Lobbyists talk to our lawmakers every day. Voters can do the same!

  • How Oreos were a catalyst for D'Seanté’s life in politics.

  • Dreaming, reading, traveling are ways to expand your mind and gather evidence that things don’t have to be the way they are. If you want to change them, you can.

Key Takeaways:

  • Americans spend more money annually crowd-funding philanthropy than lobbyists spend on lobbying. Use those dollars to amplify your voice.

  • It should never take more than five minutes to take a meaningful action in the realm of social change.

  • The toxic nature of political campaigns feed the lack of diversity in our system and the lack of nuance in our choices.

  • Elections may run on cycles, but democracy does not. Democracy is an everyday thing.

  • If we don’t use our democracy, we will lose it.

  • Even if your candidate does not win – maybe even especially – you should follow up often, call their office, ask their opinions, and share yours!

"You can travel, you can read, you're going to watch movies about people who live in places that are not like the places that you live in. A lot of times, people will tell me ‘Nothing is going to change. This is just the way it is.’ But it's not the way it is in Spain or Ghana! And until you kind of see that other people are doing things differently, it's hard to understand that things could be completely different." — D'Seanté Parks
