LaTosha Brown: Joy is the New… Everything

Listen in as Kristine and LaTosha discuss:

  • The evolution of the 2024 US Election from “Imagine the consequences” to “Imagine the possibilities.”

  • Being part of a record breaking, nationwide community organizing initiative for and by Black women in support of Kamala - and how that rippled into collective action across socio-political boundaries.

  • Why the Harris and Walz presidential ticket is more reflective of the American public than we’ve ever seen before in national politics.

  • Acknowledging and addressing the humanity in one another changes the way we disagree and have generative discussions with those who are different than us.

  • Building the democracy we deserve through the power of hope and joy.

  • Writing music and singing for joy, self-care, and building movements.

Key Takeaways:

  • Americans are making noise and saying that we want democracy, and we want governance, and we want it rooted in integrity and character. We live in a shared America, so let’s share it.

  • At our core, and most base level, we all want the same things. How we get there is how we disagree. Connect on that shared desire and listen. Hear other perspectives without the need to change minds - rather, focus on hearing someone else’s truth as a way to build bridges to mutual understanding.

  • Give grace and space to what people are saying, and listen for what they aren’t saying.

  • When you operate in the fullness of your power, you can make a change.  You don’t need to be the wealthiest, most experienced, strongest or smartest to own the power you do have and harness it towards good.

"We can do hard things and we can reclaim our joy. We can take that energy, instead of just allowing it to steer in us and become anger, we can actually transform it into something that's empowering." — LaTosha Brown
