Latanya Mapp: The Play & Pivots that Make Philanthropy Better

In this episode, global philanthropic star Latanya Mapp shares how decades of play and purpose help her shine bright in her new role as CEO of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. Tales of voices lifted in song, a passion for the clarinet, and a penchant for Play-Doh fill our conversation and make clear Latanya is no stranger to play! She has used it for years to get things done and bring people together.

Listen in as Kristine and Latanya discuss:

  • How you can accelerate impact by adjusting your approach and/or getting out of the way

  • How playfulness is a feminist superpower

  • Why philanthropy needs to adopt “radical listening”

  • Why we should not be content singing in the shower

Key Takeaways:

  • Research shows you know your purpose by the age of 5, so examine your childhood for clues to fuel your work, and nurture this mindset in the kids you know

  • When thinking about back-to-office strategies for your team, make sure to incorporate team activities and play so no one wonders why they left home to do what they could have done alone at home

  • Sing, sing, sing – and not just in the shower; music and song are contagious and powerful for changemakers

  • From the United Nations to Planned Parenthood to your kitchen table, movements of every size need women, stories, and play
